I'm not surprised -- do you have any refereces? Of
course, I _would_ be surprised if he composed in the
diminished scale for long periods of time.

I can't remember what piece it was with a snippet of octatonic melody that
my ear-training section leader played us. But I do know that I recently
heard a (kind of lame) example of this, where a diminished seventh chord was
being moved down through the scale (so essentially Bach was just alternating
two diminshed seventh chords).
