I was taught that even Bach used it once or twice. Ernest Bloch used it very
extensively. And every jazz musician knows it as the diminished scale and
has some standard patterns to use in it, whenever a 7#9 or a 13b9 chord
comes along.

Ditto every metal guitarist in the post early Scorpions Uli Roth era!
