Hey Joe-
Thanks for the thanks.
Hey Joe's correspondent-
In my opinion Cool Edit is the finest general purpose audio processing program for PC. It will set you back about $70 for the low end version (the one I use) and $400 for the full studio version (essentially a complete multitrack recording studio for you computer). The $70 version has a time limited demo that may be able to do what you want. In any case get to http://www.syntrillium.com, and for $70 you will be able to turn your
mp3 files into wav files.
Alternatively, go to www.sonicspot.com for a complete listing (and downloads) of audio software, many reviewed.

Does this also convert .wavs to .mp3s? If not, does anyone know of any
free/shareware that does?

That particular one didn't... but it looks like there is another on
on www.sonicspot.com -- looks like quite a useful site.

http://www.sonicspot.com/8hzmp3/8hzmp3.html

It looks like this free one would do the job for you... right, Paul??

Yup! It's curious that 44.1K bitrate is not supported . . . but I don't
care, since Matlab can make .wav files with any bitrate you want . . .

Actually... I should have directed you to the general page instead:

http://www.sonicspot.com/encoders.html

There are several free ones available, with different
characteristics...

Thanks, Swifty for the Swiftips...

Well, you know, I think I would go for the "five star," just like
restaurants!

In fact "MusicMatch" is here... the one that is recommended by
mp3.com.

It looks like the "unregistered" version (no $20 fee)will do
everything you need... except it is a little slower...

http://www.sonicspot.com/musicmatchjukebox/musicmatchjukebox.html

It says it will convert .wav files to mp3's...

So I think that's it... right??

Looks promising!
