The South-Indian saxophonist Kadri Gopalnath has adapted an alto saxophone
for microtonal playing by replacing the key springs with rubbers. This way
the keys can be moved more freely to do the pitch bending of Indian music.
His CD is _Gem Tones_, on the Globe Style label.
Amazon has track samples. I don't know how Maneri does it.

Fingerings, people, fingerings. I believe sax fingerings have been published
for 31-tET and 48-tET. Of course, a good ear and embrochure control are more
important than knowing a bunch of fingerings that may have been found on a
somewhat different instrument.

Hi Alex

I'm not a sax player but I'm a composer who studied with Joe. Joe uses a regular tenor, alto
or Bb clarinet usually. He gets the microtones through lipping and half fingerings or
variations thereof. You can order Pitch Vol. 1 #4, which contains a 72 note saxophone
fingering chart through the AFMM. It costs $20 . To purchase it contact the AFMM through
Johnny Reinhard off list.

Paul,

I have never played a woodwind instrument until I got my xaphoon a
couple of weeks ago. When I get a handle on playing microtones at
will rather than by accident, I'll look up the 31-TET chart. :)

Thanks,
Paolo
