Either Helmholtz of Ellis worked that out first, depending on which part
of the book it's in.

"Well temperaments" can be good if you want to do circular modulations. I
find pure ETs get bland if you expose their equality. I think
there's potential in 7-note temperaments, based on neutral third scales,
used with pentatonic subsets in this fashion. Somebody need to work out
the details!
