The mil: 1/1023 of an equal-tempered semitone

(To tuning, tuning-math, Joe Monzo)

The name of this unit is proposed at
http://beta.briefideas.org/ideas/50bd78ca85c5e2523c11f83250e851c3 .
Note the numerous important tuning/temperament intervals that are
close to whole numbers of mils. The connections to the prima and the
Brombaugh temperament-unit (tu) are acknowledged with links to
http://xenharmonic.wikispaces.com/Interval+size+measure and
http://www.tonalsoft.com/enc/t/tu.aspx .

I've had this idea in my head (without doing much about it) since I
came across the Brombaugh tu about 15 years ago. Earlier candidates
for the definition of the mil were 1/240 of a ditonic comma (3tu) and
1/220 of a syntonic comma. But I was always going to call it the mil.

If it's any use to you, you're welcome!

Thanks for this information.

Wilson's work substantially reduces the originality of my article
(although some remains). I shall acknowledge it at
http://beta.briefideas.org/ ASAP.

That's done at http://t.co/swOBXVyHBM .

(Pity about the single quotes in the title, which were displayed
correctly in the preview but not in the final article!)
