Xenguitarist forum returns! ... an invitation to join

The former microtonal guitarist forum is back online at
http://xenguitarist.com/
Thus is perhaps the only independant dedicated xen forum online, it is owned by Ron Sword. Tyler and myself are also admin.

We welcome general xen discussion, in fact i have just renamed one of the subforums to exactly that. Although called xenguitarist there is no expectation members should own a xen guitar or bass. Since we lost nonoctave the web is missing an independant xen forum, i feel like opening out the xenguitarist forum a little to more general xen discussion, i hope Ron thinks this is a good idea heh.

Gedankenwelt is there and has posted some well presented theory posts, there are some members who refuse to join FB and who resent the recent hidng of the XA forum from the public, as i do too. I actually reluctantly joined FB recently to access the xenharmonic alliance II (there i am menokefug sonataris). I don't feel like fully engaging in the FB XA because it is not public ... not everyone is on FB.

Mat (ix) la rampe.

Cool, I'm glad you guys are out there. I pushed against the
move from Mills to Yahoo (then onelist) back in 1998, and I
pushed against using facebook back in 2010-11. These services
have their pros and cons. A lot of benefit has come from using
facebook, but, like I said, I'm really glad you guys are
out there.

Which one is that?

Thanks Carl.
There i am referring to Xenharmonic Alliance II on Facebook, originally it could be accessed by anyone without joining FB, but there was a change in FB forum policy which seems to be a nasty move to force people to join FB.

This is all news to me. I'm just getting back from a two week trip in
Israel, so I'm a bit out of the loop, but it looks like you're correct
about this. This doesn't seem to be something that I can change, so it
does indeed look like this is a site-wide FB mandated change in forum
policy. Has this been causing a lot of problems for people?

Ah, yep, looks like a login wall. Quora did this bait-and-switch
too. Anyone used to be able to view answers on Quora, now you
must have an account. I stopped contributing to Quora for this.

Actually, I just checked Quora, and now they're letting anonymous
users read the first answer to any question (the rest of the
answers are blurred out). Super-lame.

Being on Facebook, I never noticed it happen and.... was not informed it
did as well. Can't say I'm surprised.

The obvious answer is for some independent entity with a deep stake in
xenharmonic music to offer an alternative. Obviously Ron's forum is a good
choice. Though Mat have you opened up the registration process again? At
one time you had to close registration because the tide of spam accounts
was difficult to deal with. (Its happened to me too FWIW)

I say go for it, though I hope that people who are tired of Facebook know
about the tuning list!

Yeah Chris i have set up a new system to fight the spammers, there's a fairly easy micro related question asked during registration which seems to be putting off the spammers. Also, when you first join you have restricted permissions and are asked to briefly introduce yourself, this is so i can see you are human and transfer you to the membergroup with full permissions. I had to set all this up because a while ago i was spending an hour a day deleting spammers who were joining at a rate of 30 per day.

However i haven't consulted Ron about this and i assume he wants it to remain primarily focussed on xen guitars, but since xen guitarists are interested in general xen theory and many other xen instruments ... and since xen musicians are often interested in guitars i feel the forum could be a little more 'general xen'. Also as a place for the more independant or rebellious xen enthusiasts who don't like FB or don't want to join Yahoo.

However i know many people don't like introducing themselves or find it difficult and unnatural, me being one, so to be clear if you join and let me know what username you chose there is no need to introduce yourself, i will give you full permissions.

Mat,

I believe Ron asked me to post more by him a few weeks back. I can't see
where he'd have a problem with letting people know you've fix the spammer
problem and new users are welcome. I would have but I'm a pretty bust guy
as it is.
There is a need for a non-facebook forum for discussion because FB sure
ain't the NING site we had and this thread points out they can and will do
what they please at a drop of a hat.

Despite being busy I will try to make it a point to visit at least weekly.
You probably know I post a storm and I could do like a weekly summary post
or something. Content is the key to traffic...

Ah sorry Chris that was me being unclear, where i write "However i haven't consulted Ron about this" i am referring to a shift towards general xen discussion.
Don't worry i know you are busy, but if you do post at xenguitarist compilation threads of your tracks is a good idea since you are so musically productive.
Mat ;)
