Well, you want an idiot's guide, and I'm an idiot, so I'll take this

It's got explanations, some MIDI examples to listen to, and pointers to
other references.

As I wrote the web pages, I had a little trouble "targeting the audience",
since readers come from different walks of life. (E.g., some readers are
heavy into math; others couldn't care less about math.) I'm sure others on
this list have run across the same challenge.

Anyway, hope you find what you're looking for. Feedback is welcome!
