He discovered an error in fret placement calculation
for 12tet guitars. I think he fixed it by moving the
nut closer to the bridge. So maybe it's really a well
temperament? I fuzzy on this one. Historical temperaments
and meantone tunings aren't my bag.

Buzz Feiten's system will make a 12-tET guitar play in true 12-tET, a JI
guitar play in true JI, etc. Of course it's not perfect, but it's a vast
improvement over the intonation you can acheive with a straight nut.
