Are both 12/11 and 10/9 in your set of target consonances?

Is your acceptable error, e, less than 15 cents? (Knowing you, I'm sure it is.)

If so, then you could be judging each porcupine generator based on how close to 12/11 it is, or how close to 10/9 it is, but never both. But in porcupine, each generator is supposed to function as 12/11, 11/10, and 10/9, all at the same time. If some of them are being pulled toward 12/11 and some toward 10/9, then no wonder the chain is destabilizing into some really big generators and some small ones.

I'm wondering if your optimization process would leave alone a non-circulating chain of POTE porcupine generators, or whether it would make them unequal...

It never completely leaves a MOS alone, but sometimes it doesn't mess with it much.

Whoa, this is pretty good! If anything, I'd say even well-temper it
more, as those wolf 3/2's are about 752 cents each. It'd be
interesting to see if we could get them into father range or so, like
13-EDO's 738 cent 3/2.

What did you use as a basis for porcupine, the POTE generator? What if
you run it again, but use a generator that's something between POTE
and 15-EDO? The arithmetic mean of the 160 cent 15-EDO generator and
the POTE 163.950 generator is 161.975, and so maybe that'd do the
trick.

Is that so bad? 17/11 is 753.637 cents.

It depends on what you want. I'd like for everything to be usable as a
3/2, except some are harsher so you'd use them less. And if you
believe in 17-limit harmony, then 17/13 is 464.428 and about what I'm
shooting for for the worst tempered 4/3's.

Wow, that's definitely getting there. Fifths are still a bit harsh though.

Any chance we could see 161 cents?

If you just run this with 160 cents, e.g. 15-EDO, should we expect to
see 15-EDO back out again?

If the equilibrium is stable, yes; otherwise round-off errors should produce a result, which would be a possible method for getting a result close to an edo in that case.
