OK, I guess I can see what your saying there, but that subharmonic
'spelling' still seems like a 'wrong' (and especially
counterintuitive) way to write it to me.

Actually the first example is just an otonal (and utonal) 2:3, the
9-limit 'stack of fifths' and the augmented 'stack of thirds' were
just some other examples of the point.
