Can anyone tell me how to refret a guitar for 19 tones? I can't find anything more than abstract theory on the subject. Any useful information will be much appreciated, thank you.

Yes indeed!

I've done some fret work now. At what level of guitar work are you at?

Mike:

I realize Chris has already responded to your inquiry -- another resource on refretting guitars can be found at:

http://infohost.nmt.edu/~jstarret/guitar.html

This page is by John Starret who has done a lot of guitar work (as so I understand). John provides a fairly step-by-step tutorial of what to do to refret a guitar to a new scale. As far as the fret positions, his page uses Just Intonation intervals, for 19 tone equal temperament (19tet / 19edo) you would replace "r" in his fret distance calculation with the proper step of 19 edo -- the ratio can be computed:

r = 2 ^ (step / 19.0)

Which means 2 raised to the power of (the step number divided by 19). After doing a quick google search on "refret guitar", many videos and other links come up -- those may be useful additional resources for how to perform the actual wood work on the guitar.

I've never done any guitar work myself -- but I was aware of John's tutorial from previous research. I hope that this has been more useful information for the answers you seek!

Hey, sorry it took so long to reply. My only computer access is at the library. Any way thanks to Chris, that calculator was what I needed. Jay I want to understand r2^(step/19.0) but I don't, could you dumb it down more? If so, it would be mitzvah if you would!                                                                      Thanks
