that is a very cool name - but I'm puzzled on how it applies Gene - what is
the story behind it?

The name was provided by Keenan Pepper:

"Well, it's closely related to "astrology" (22edo with half-octave period and 4\22 generator represents both), but it's also closely related to "machine" (both have 9/8~8/7 generator).

Therefore I hereby dub this temperament "antikythera"."
