Yes, there was an article about this in the Times a few years ago...
The "innovation" seemed to cause quite an uproar for both Steinway and
the management... I believe, in fact, the concert was cancelled, so it's
not surprising that a similar response would be heard for an
"alternately tuned" piano or a "prepared" one...
