Linus: I happen to have my copy of Barbour handy and
this is what he says (paraphrased): Ho Tcheng-thyen about 400 AD
published three monochords with fundamentals of 9.0, 81.0 and 100,
but with identical ratios. The cents values are 0 101 200 297 398 493
596 699 791 897 985 1091 1200. About 1595, Prince Tsai-Yu" calculated
the 12th roots of 2 to 9 significant figures on a fundamental of
1,000,000,000.
