Problems with scales.zip

I recently downloaded the scales.zip file from the archives. Because of the
limitations on name length, when I unzip the files, my machine reads
xxx-xxxx2.scl as being the same file as xxx-xxxx.scl. It gives me the
option of overwriting, or renaming. I started renaming them, unil I realised
just how many scales are listed in here! Anyone got a convenient way around
this problem?
