Hello,

I am a doctoral student at the Universite Paris Sud in France.
I am involved in analysis and synthesis of musical sounds.

I am also interested in "Paradoxical sounds"(circular scales) and in chromatic
scales (12, 19, 24, 31, 53). I am particularly interested in building a
"mixed-scale" system, i.e. using the relationships between 12,19 and others
rather than opposing them.

I use the CSound synthesis program, I own an Atari Falcon030 computer and a D5
Roland synthesizer (this synth is not designed for fine tunings, but, thanks to
the Atari, MIDI and pitch bend, it may be possible to achieve interesting
things).

I also run a Web page at:

In a message dated 96-03-07 06:34:27 EST, you write:

>My understanding is that the rest of the Partch instruments are now residing
at
>Purchase College (part of SUNY) in Westchester County (New York) under the
care
>of Dean Drummond. Does anyone know if they accessible to the general public
>for viewing?
>

Back in January there was an open house. I was there for
2 1/2 hours asking Dean questions and 3 other people showed
up for a few min. He told me there will be a performance on 3/24,
three to five or six pm at SUNY. I would give you the number of
the studio, but I don't know what I did with it. I'll look tonight. If I find
it,
I'll post it.

>Speaking of Dean Drummond, in the brochure for the aforementioned
exhibition,
>there is mention of a third Newband CD containing a new recording of
Partch's
>"Castor and Pollux." Does anyone know if this CD has been released yet?
>
>John

I asked Dean about this and he said not yet. But then that was in Jan.

David and Adam:

Many thanks for the info about the Partch instruments at SUNY Purchase.
And thanks, David, for the Newband CD clarification. I trust that when
it does finally get released, someone will notify the list. I look
forward to further new recordings of the Partch oeuvre.

John
