Flynn,

Such resolution is not so very bad. If you take the nearest step,
you're never further than halfway, 0.78125 cents. For the average
case, an audible beat will be much slower than 1 Hz.
If there is a DOS PC with a Midi interface near the Proteus at your
college, you can let it do the boring maths work with this program:

I have about a page of handwritten cryptic comments about that article.
I've been slowly trying to lash them together into some kind of coherent
post that also addresses some of Brian McLaren's criticisms from early
January. Stay tuned, I'll get them posted eventually.
