Amazing Grace on Bag Pipes

Does anybody know how Amazing Grace became popular to play on Bagpipes? Just
curious of course.

I ask because I finally located a CD of the Scots Guards. Despite the cover
picture looking military, and bearing the words "In the Finest Tradition", this
CD was kinda popularistic in nature. But nevertheless it has a few really neat
pieces on it. The opening cut is Amazing Grace, but what struck me as
surprising about it is that it was performed with woodwinds and brass behind the
pipes rather than the usual drums. It was actually quite moving; it had a
surprising sound to it - more than the sum of the parts.

My E-mu Classic Keys, and I *think* this is true of most of the
Proteus derived modules, came with 12tet, Valotti, a 5 limit JI,
"gamelan" and 19tet tuning tables built in, plus the user table, all
out of the box.

As I've recently learned, the current samplers do NOT have these
features, but it's not like they don't have prior experience with
non12 [and, the Classic sounds *are* sample based...]. Maybe these
sorts of things would be a good use for the new high powered DSP Emu
supposedly announced recently.

By the way, Ensoniq samplers have pretty good microtonal support.
