forum CD is happening

Yes...we now have enough folks for this project to proceed. In fact,
with the addition of Genovese and Marcus Hobbs, we have 12...so, is it
OK with everyone to have 12 folks, and slightly less time per piece?
My opinion...yes, because I want to represent the forum as well as
possible, so the more, the merrier. How much music will fit on a CD,
anyway? And, as Rapoport pointed out, his piece is only 4 or 5 minutes
anyway...perhaps some others will be shorter as well. I'm willing to
compromise on this end...think it over, and post opinions. Looks like
we can get it going in March...what a hoot! Thanks to all involved,
this will be a very positive step for the cause of non 12eq music...
see you...Hstick

You don't need the tetrahedra to fill space. The lattice fills space
perfectly fine (if you look at the Voronoi cells of the vertices,
they're rhombic dodecahedra, which _do_ fill space); but instead of
dividing space up into cubes you get alternating tetrahedra and
octahedra. The octahedra are actually kind of interesting as chords,
almost like the Petrushka chord.

This isn't right--21/16 should be plotted, not where you have it, but
like this:

5/4-------15/8
/ \ /
/ . \ / .
/ \ /
1/1-------3/2

in which case the spatial/visual relationship between pitches 3/2 apart
is preserved.

A few related thoughts . . .

On Thu, 29 Jan 1998, it was written:

In crystallography this relationship is called "face-centered cubic
close-packing" and is quite common.

I believe this structure was actually patented by Buckminster Fuller
under the name "Octotruss".
