I thought I should announce that my new CD (called
XENTONALITY) is (finally) available from Frog Peak music,
distributers of fine electronic and world music. Their
address is Box 1052, Lebanon, NH 03766, phone is 603-448-8837,
or email frogpeak@sover.net

XENTONALITY contains music composed in a variety of
tunings. These include pieces in equal temperaments such
as 10-tet, 11-tet, 13-tet, 19-tet, and 88-cet, some in
various JI's, some are adaptively tuned, and some in
wierd tunings dictated by the timbres of the instruments
themselves. You can find more about it at

http://eceserv0.ece.wisc.edu/~sethares/xentone.html

We're close indeed...numerous folks have contacted me to express
interest in participating...at this point, here's who I have as con-
firmed: Haverstick, Starret, Morrison, Taylor, Sethares, Loffink,
and Sanford...Paul Rapoport, Warren Burt, and Bill Alves were mighty
close...if you guys are in, please post me privately to confirm. Fortuin
and Genovese are interested as well. So, what if we get more than 10
people who want in? One of 2 things: we all agree to slightly shorter
pieces, or some folks wait until next time. I am confident that we can
work all this out in a peaceful way.
Other comments: my studio guy prefers DAT's with a 44.1 sampling
rate...also, I would like cassettes of the pieces, as well as the DAT's,
so I can hear the pieces and arrange an order to the CD. And, I would
like to wait until March 8 to get rolling, as I am doing a musical
until then and don't have the time. After that, it should go pretty
quick. PS... please send a short bio of the tune you submit, for in-
clusion on the liner notes...this is going to be a great project...
we have a lot of talent to offer...Hstick

Looks like we have enough folks to do this thing...here's a list of
names, please let me know if anything has changed; if not, this is it:
John Starrett
Rich Sanford
Bill Sethares
Gary Morrison
Bill Alves
Denny Genovese
Hstick
John Loffink
Paul Rapoport
Stephen Taylor
Warren Burt
Marcus Hobbs

I want to put it together in March, so start sending your Dat's and such
then. If you need any sort of tech info, please contact my studio guy,
Jim Ratts...email is sratts@compuserve.com phone is 303-781-3314.

I do not yet know all the exact costs...we especially need to hang loose
and see how much the inserts will be, because we're going to have a lot
of notes on the tunes. And, I hope everyone will include their email
addresses as well. I am confident that we can cover all costs with the
amount of folks we have...bombs away...Hstick

A brief update...the DAT's are trickling in, there's still a few
we're waiting on...as soon as everyone's tape is here, checks will be
cashed, and it shouldn't be too long till it's done...Hstick

Well, it's finally moving...I went to the studio Friday, and put 5
tracks onto the master DAT...only problem is, Warren Burt's dat is toast,
and we need another..I've posted him, if anyone knows a quick way to get
ahold of him, please do so...I need his dat to move on. Also, as a note,
the final product will reflect exactly what each person sent me...all
fades, noise, or whatever, will be just like the dats I received...see
you...Hstick

hour or two, I'm off to the graphics guy to get it rolling. All dat's are
in, same deal..just need some time. Summertime as a working/single dad is
really busy...it will get done soon...I am honored to be working with
such a talented bunch, believe me...this is going to be a great

All-
Yes, I suspect the best way to get a forum cd is to order from
the microdude you know best. I have excerpts from the CD on my web page at

http://www-math.cudenver.edu/~jstarret/listenforumcd.html

from all but three participants, with instructions for ordering from me
if you like. Warren Burt, Carter Scholz and John Loffink have not yet
given permission to post their cuts.

Gary Morrison made a good suggestion about distributing the forum CD;
he proposed that if you order one, you order it from the person you
know best, or the person closest to you geographically. Since each
of the contributors will have 80-100 CDs to distribute, I think this
is a fair way to ensure that each of us has a chance to sell some
without getting into price wars, repeated postings, etc.

My address is: Carter Scholz/ 2665 Virginia St/ Berkeley CA 94709.
And I will echo Gary's suggested price of $10 including postage.

May I also suggest that we post a complete list of contributors'
addresses? Perhaps Neil has such a list and would be willing to post
it here.

Here are the latest addresses I have for each of the contributors. If
they are incorrect, let us all know:

Stephen James Taylor; 1948 Estes Rd.; Los Angeles, CA 90041; USA

Warren Burt; 6/17 Broadway; Elwood, Victoria 3184; Australia (This
address is
probably the least likely to be correct)

John Starrett: (I have no mailing address for John, but check out his web
page if you
haven't already:
http://www-math.cudenver.edu/~jstarret/microtone.html. Perhaps
he has ordering information there.)

Bill Sethares; 2001 Covnent Place, #1; Nashville, TN 37212-4210; USA
(I think
Bill is back in Wisconsin now, so this is probably NOT correct)

Neil Haverstick; P.O. Box 150271; Lakewood, CO 80215; USA

Richard A. Sanford; 50 West 34th Street, #12A4; New York, NY 10001; USA

Denny Genovese; P.O. Box 620632; San Diego, CA 92162; USA

Ernie Crews; 816 County Road 11; Golden, CO 80403; USA

Bill Alves; 813 N. Second Street; Alhambra, CA 91801; USA

Carter Scholz; 2665 Virginia Street; Berkeley, CA 94709; USA

Gary Morrison; 13036 Staton Drive; Austin, TX 78727-4513; USA
