Carl Sagan, in his book _Cosmos_, said in essence that
the complexity and sophistication of the Antikythera mechanism
proves that the burning of the Library of Alexandria -- the
great repository of ancient Greek knowledge -- at the hands
of fanatical Christian fundamentalists, set back the evolution
of modern technology by at least 1500 years.
