also check out the awesome documentary "Trinity and Beyond" complete with
narration by Capt. Kirk. Atomic blasts are horrifying and perversely
beautiful.

I saw one that contained all the declassified footage of the blast a few years ago at an AFI festival. but thought the name was different than this.
there was a whole secret film studio that dealt with this stuff up in laurel Canyon.
I had happen to go to a party there for what fronted as a house soon after it was bought by John Mayall.
unfortunately john was no where to be found but a mob of thousands

they also invented a camera that was a big sphere with a mirror in the
center that could spin at very high speeds. A strip of film was pasted
inside the sphere as a circumference, so the light enters the sphere through
a lens, hits the mirror and is projected onto the strip of film so that the
one revolution of the mirror would throw the light in a tiny fraction of a
second. This way they could photograph the inital few milliseconds of the
detonation. The pics are very weird.

that is some ingenuity for sure. i bet these pictures are impressive.
It is my understanding that the underground testing would leave a giant hollow sphere inside with the perimeter being a type of 'glass' of every color imaginable. the results of all these elements thrown together and cooled after the blast.
BTW i totally agree that the atomic blast are horrifying and perversely beautiful. the ones set off in space where you have a near sphere in the sky are very other worldly!

That sounds like a drum camera. I'm not sure if they invented
it for nukes per se, but filming explosions was their main
application I think. In fact I think some are actuated by
explosives themselves? A friend of mine used to operate one for
an aerospace company in southern California. They were studying
the way water droplets behaved in the atmosphere. He quit when
applications turned towards delivery vechicles for chemical
weapons. And when they caught him making LSD (then legal) in
the lab.
