Under the spell...

Well, we swell with pride: from a local community (Poway) near lovely
San Diego, we have the winner of the national spelling bee - a young
man who correctly spelled "appoggiatura". Can a return to classical
music as a wide-spread phenomenon be far behind?

One newscaster defined the word appoggiatura as "a melodic tone." A bit
weak, no?

How about accented non-harmonic melodic tone?
