here's another one of those tests that tell you which religions or belief
systems you match up with:

http://beliefnet.com/story/76/story_7665_1.html

Here's my results. Its funny that the religion I was born into (Roman
Catholic) comes out at the bottom of the list! Also interesting is the high
scores for Christian Science and Unitarianism, systems I've never even read
about. The New Age result is pretty accurate, since these days my main
concern is attempting to contact ETs telepathically. ;-) I've also spent
many years studying Buddhism, so its not surprising it came out #4. Its a
little worrying that Scientology comes out #7, maybe I sould call John
Travolta to talk about it?

1. New Age (100%)
2. Christian Science (Church of Christ, Scientist) (97%)
3. Unitarian Universalism (93%)
4. Mahayana Buddhism (92%)
5. Neo-Pagan (92%)
6. New Thought (92%)
7. Scientology (84%)
8. Liberal Quakers (78%)
9. Theravada Buddhism (75%)
10. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (75%)
11. Taoism (70%)
12. Hinduism (69%)
13. Secular Humanism (50%)
14. Jainism (50%)
15. Bah' Faith (49%)
16. Reform Judaism (46%)
17. Sikhism (44%)
18. Orthodox Quaker (40%)
19. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) (35%)
20. Jehovah's Witness (35%)
21. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (32%)
22. Nontheist (26%)
23. Orthodox Judaism (22%)
24. Islam (17%)
25. Seventh Day Adventist (13%)
26. Eastern Orthodox (8%)
27. Roman Catholic (8%)

everyone seems to be part Unitarian, but if you read the description:

http://www.beliefnet.com/story/80/story_8041_1.html

it seems so vague that it could apply to almost anyone, although I suppose
the idea is that it could apply to almost anyone without dogmatic beliefs,
which, happily, seems to be the case with microtonalists!
(JI-as-dogmatic-religion controversy notwithstanding) ;-)

Hi Dante,

Just to say, thanks for the inspiring quotes from Longchenpa
and others, and your various posts. Of course I'm
very much in sympathy with what you have been saying.

Yes I've also wondered about those things. I puzzled
over lots of things like this originally in my philosophy years.
Then more recently got involved in meditation, and
as you usually do I listened to many teachers in
different schools initially for a number of years,
then settled down to one tradition, and for the
last twenty or so years have been following the tradition
of the Nyingmapa school of Tibetan Buddhism.

Longchenpa is a principal figure in this branch of Buddhism,
as I expect you know, so it is particularly inspiring to
read a quote by him.

Thanks,

Robert

Hi Robert-

Hehe. Small world (@ metatuning anyway). I also took a long road that
eventually led me to Dzogchen Ati, and I have the good fortune to be a
student (however poor) of Namkhai Norbu. EMAHO!

Naturally, Longchenpa is the fons et origo- although my official
introduction has come via NNR, I almost feel like reading Longchenpa was an
even more direct pointing. Luckily, more of his works are being translated.
I did a couple of years of Tibetan language studies with a Sakya lama, and I
can read some, but it still is slow going so I'm glad to have the
translations of the two books of mdzod bdun that have been published so far
by Padma Publishing. The light fairly streams off the pages.

20 years Nyingma- do I detect a student of Dudjom R. or Dilgo Khyentse R.?
