I was wondering about this. I hope Bradbury sues him
and wins. I despise Moore, and I'll have no problem
looking the other way again if whoever masterminded the
9/11 attacks decides to crash a plane into him.

Alright, alright, just kidding. I don't wish anyone any
ill will, and I'm actually curious to see F911 after seeing
the trailer last week. At least Moore is successfully
bringing, er, something to the table.

I have reviews of _Bowling_ at...

????

I always thought Moore's title was an obvious reference to Ray
Bradbury's book. Now Bradbury is steaming about stealing...stealing?!

I thought he had style. Maybe his lights are beginning to dim.

How sad.

One would have to be completely ignorant of the book to not notice
that.

As far as style, while I don't have a problem with Moore doing a take-
off on the title, I have a big problem with his not even *asking* RB
about the matter. When one talks about sadness, style, etc., I'd
include that kind of contemporary boorishness in the same
conversation.

I also think that this ends up being an oblique commentary (our
discussion) on the state of appropriation of materials - what is fair
game? And, no, definitely no, I don't have a good answer on this!

Cheers,
Jon

Exactly. Allusions aren't illegal or even immoral. They are extremely
common in all art forms. That's why I don't understand Bradbury's
reaction.

I don't have a problem with not asking. But Bradbury tried to contact
him. That Moore avoided him bothers me immensely.

What about publicly calling Moore a "screwed asshole"? How stylish is
that?

Wow Carl thats harsh! During the Sault debacle, you came across sounding
more like Jesus, now you're sounding more like Sault! (just teasing).

This wasn't allusion - the titles are nearly identical. That *might*
explain his reaction.

I do, but common courtesy seems to be nearly extinct from human
behavior anymore.

Me too.

Pretty low. Maybe when you and I are Bradbury's age and someone ticks
us off we'll see how we do!

There are many songs called "1984" and a TV show called "Big
Brother". Should Orwell's estate be pissed of?

What about "Something Wicked this Way Comes"? :)

And then there's a book by Andrew Harman called "Fahrenheit 666". :)

On reflection, I think you're right Kalle. I'm just
such a huge Bradbury fan, and such a Moore antifan,
that I let my feelings cloud my judgement. This is
not much above Microsoft suing Lindows over their
name.

I'm not a huge fan of either but I still respect Bradbury more than
Moore. The worst thing Bradbury could do next is to take legal action
against Moore.

So just because you dislike Moore you think he should not be able to
exercise his legal rights? Bradbury's whining was not that much
different that the snivelling over "The Wind Done Gone". We've given
away the store on the so-called "intellectual property" front to
Disney and Sonny Bono; let's at least keep the right of free speech to
some extent.

You're absolutely right, and you'll hopefully see my
earlier retraction.
