polarized society

I would like to say that I spend a lot of time trying to convince
conservative friends how wrong they are--and reminding them that the same
people who are making war against Saddam now, were funding and arming him
15 years ago--but, like many progressive thinkers, I spend way too much
time on "metatuning" and other such lists, more or less preaching to the
choir, and not enough time trying to break through the intense
polarization that has cut off dialogue in this country.

Shame on us, or me anyway.

We can blame problems on individual politicians, but ultimately, things
will not change for the better, unless we convince the majority of society
that they are, in fact, out of whack. The politicians (at least the
mainstream ones) aren't going to do this convincing. It's up to us.

Unforch., I'm learning that polarity cannot be solved with
an approach like this. Polarity does not mean 'we must crush
the other side'.
