i was justre-reading the discussing on
the Tuning List from mid-March between
Gene and i, regarding Ernest McClain's work,
and started wondering again about the current
state of the Sumerian antiquities in Iraq.

what's in this article does indeed sound like good news
-- but unfortunately, the artifacts that were housed
in the museums in Iraq during Saddam's reign are only
a tiny fraction of the total which were still in
existence, most of which still (hopefully) lie buried
in the ground in Iraq.

what really bothers me is that i know that most of the
American soldiers who are over there have no idea of
the cultural value of this stuff. i'm praying that this
earliest and most fascinating window into our written
history isn't being blown to smithereens ... but my
fear is that this is exactly what is happening.
