Guys,

I would have replied to your thread, started at tuning, earlier but I wanted to see if I could track down an article online. It wasn't easy, as the New Yorker lets it's content go away without having it searchable, but apparantly still in the site (copious Googling found a link in a discussion group).

Anyway, if one wants proof that all 'opera' singers aren't cut from the same cloth, that musicians that lean in this direction can most definitely be seeking, intelligent, and unconventional in their desires to communicate with music, then I HIGHLY recommend the following profile on the amazing mezzo-soprano Lorraine Hunt Lieberson:
