it is my understanding as one of the big contributors to the LA
philharmonic, after the performance of a xenakis piece, he is said to
have commmented that he would make sure his music will never be played
there again. I don't believe it they have.

is that "i don't believe it - they have" or "i don't believe that
they have"?

and was there a point or a tie-in to some other discussion?

I don't know how much mixed-ensemble stuff they do out there, but the resident percussion ensemble "red fish blue fish" at UCSD rarely lets a year go by without doing a couple of his 5-6 player pieces. Next time I see one up I'll give you a shout...

Cheers,
Jon

I'm so sorry to hear that - in a different way! What I mean is that a couple of years ago there just happened to be 3 grad students out there that had the right 'stuff' to do that piece - they were all very good djembe players - and they must have performed it a dozen times in various venues down here over a couple year period. It was a great rendition, and definitely best live. Unfortunately, they have all moved on now, and I haven't heard Okho in a while, though I thought of it recently when I was at a djembe class with Mamady Keito.

Cheers,
Jon
