Don't take this as unkind, but the putting-together of that site isn't just hack work, it ignores many of the important features of basic web design strategy. For instance, no one has placed keywords in the meta-tag sections, so none of the search engines that still utilize metas while they spider are going to find anything that they can include in client searches.

As for Google, which is how it came up, one of the most important criteria is how many sites link *to* yours - have you tried to network and get other music sites to link to yours?

If you want this site to be not only included in searches on the web, but to be taken seriously in this day and age, you need to contact someone who knows a little bit about setting up a site. I'm willing to bet in the tech-savvy greater Boston area you can find some college kid that can help out, maybe barter for guitar lessons from you...

Cheers,
Jon

i agree (did you seriously believe i could think otherwise??). but i
don't think you understand how this works. unless you pay extra $$$,
you're allowed to enter some text, upload a single graphic, and
that's it -- no further control is provided.

oh yeah, there is a provision to use an outside url, the design of
which has been promised to the bass player's friend in ny . . . still
waiting . . . (yes, i've offered to put money into this, out of my
own pocket, but waiting seems to be the operative strategy . . .)

yes, a few do. thanks for reminding me, though.

anyway, we're doing great business these days just through playing
out . . . people see us, gigs roll in . . . which reminds me i have
to update the wish-it-was-a-website to mention our second
residency . . .

There is nothing about the web site that would tip me off how it is being hosted; I was not aware this was a low-cost domain host situation.

Unfortunately, then, the adage is correct: you get what you pay for.

www.catalog.com will host a domain for (IIRC) about $25 a year, with (IIRC) a one-time $25 admin fee. Complete control, plenty of space, plenty of widgets. All one needs for a full-on site.

More will help, but it takes time. If you consider the band a long-term investment, consider just a tiny bit more time, effort, and $ in your web presence. If you want to be more than a local band, it should pay off.

Cheers,
Jon
