i've been hearing good things about this beast:

http://www.line6.com/Variax/home.html

in fact, just about every review of it on harmony central seems to
bear out all the hype. did line 6 pay these people?? :)

One does wonder....

I wonder how much they'll love the guitar in 6-12 months and they
start to notice how much they miss their old Strat because
the Variax just doesn't seem to have that zing.

did you listen to the demos? the sounds do leave something to be
desired, but presumably they were all recorded with the same guitar
and the same set of strings, and given that, they're pretty
impressive -- this would work well in a musical stage production or
cruise liner band situation, where guitarists are often called on to
play a particular kind of guitar, but it generally just stays in the
background and fills out the sound. it must feel totally bizarre to
play a solidbody with light strings and have a decent emulation of a
gibson super 400 jazz box come out!

Funny -> es175 demo borrows from Bright Size Life!

I listened to a bunch of them. They have that typical
modeling sound - kinda flat. I would hope there's
a way to edit the effects section, they should cool
on a solo guitar but would muddy up the mix in a group.

I'll try to check one out, if I can find one.

I tried a Line 6 guitar this afternoon. The only
good that I noticed was the zero latency between
picking the note and hearing it. The effects
on the web example are not part of the
real guitars sound.
