this part i can agree with:

"The religious cant that will send American troops into battle is
perhaps the most sickening aspect of this surreal war-to-be. Bush has
an arm-lock on God."

which makes a recent metatuning correspondent's reference to the
problem being "western scientific rationalism" all the more puzzling.
scientific rationalism is something very close to the spirit of hindu
thought, more than to any western religion (let alone to the
beliefs/actions/principles of mr. bush) . . . and scientific
rationalism is what is going to allow saddam hussein to develop
nuclear weapons (if it hasn't already). so i wonder if some ideas got
thoughtlessly lumped together here . . .

Seems like a lot of ideas are getting thoughtlessly
lumped together, & that the war propaganda machine is
very much doing its duty.

To suggest that W has any beliefs or principles is a
tremendous muddle of thought!

i had to laugh at that one, even as i disagree with you:
it's pretty obvious to me that W has a belief in the
divine right of America to rule the world, or at least
to own all the oil.

Hey, Monz!

Well, yeah, because I have to exclude cynical
pragmatism, duplicity, and greed from my of list of
beliefs and principles, because those words mean
something generally much more virtuous, to me.

We're about to witness, apparently, the worst
massacre in Baghdad in 600 years, perpetrated by a
guy who's not even as dignified as the men who seem
to be his heroes, the ones who created Iraq in the
first place: His Majesty's Government of World War I!

At least they had rival empires to consider, and
furthermore many of them could speak English!

good one! ... but at the same time, it saddens me
that a belief in empire-building still exists, so
that we have it as a subject for these jokes.

Yea. Sad and outraged. I liked Le Carre's use of
the phrase, "the Bush junta". I hadn't heard that
one before (thanks, Dante!)...and I'm glad you
thought it was funny, for a minute at least.

Peace, Monz
