well . . . we've been up and down the myers-briggs highway, but now i
read this:

"What is personality, though? The answer turns out to be quite
specific. The new sciences of human nature have discovered that
personality has exactly five dimensions: people are, in varying
degrees, either open to experience or incurious, conscientious or
undirected, extroverted or introverted, agreeable or antagonistic,
and neurotic or stable. (This is known in the literature as the Five-
Factor Model, or FFM. The five dimensions are referred to by the
acronym OCEAN.)"

with tongue partially in cheek, i ask: does anyone have more info on
this model?

There are two types of personalities in the world: those who think personalities can be classified into distinct types: those who think personalities can be classified into distinct types: those who think personalities can be classified into distinct types: ......
.
.
.
........ and those who do not.

Here's a page with links to some different on-line tests,
including an OCEAN one...

http://www.topix.com/~sean/tests.htm

OCEAN is mentioned in this paper...

http://www.iusb.edu/~ffujita/Documents/big5.html

Which is related to this chart...

http://fas.psych.nwu.edu/perproj/theory/big5.table.html

Which appears to be part of some sort of meta-critique
of personality tests.

cool! so it's myers-briggs plus emotional stability. i'm unstable!
(except when i'm in a relationship with someone unstable, then i
become incredibly stable, like a rock . . .)

kraig, if you're really going to enforce this non-counting of ">"s
and just going by the name that appears, then you just did the same
thing to martin and me on the spec-mus list. you had "martin braun
wrote" followed by something i wrote.

Well then you are correct in correcting me. I am not trying to enforce
anything though, just trying to claim my own humor
