U.S. cigarette makers are killing 5 million of us a year. And making billions:

it's not a distant step from there to claiming mcdonald's kills
millions a year. where do you draw the line?

Well, I myself wouldn't happen to look too hard where to draw a line in these two cases (and that, in spite of the fact that Mrs. Ray Kroc, who inherited the McDonalds empire from her late husband, is a spectacularly good human being. She is so far beyond generous with her money, and virtually all of it going to either community-oriented projects [she just funded here in San Diego a $70+ million dollar inner-city project that will go a loooong way to solving inequities and being pragamatically helpful to a deeply neglected section of society] to more global concerns [the Joan Kroc Center for Peace and Justice, on the Univerity (private) of San Diego campus] - ummmm, what a long sentence... she is either just plainly generous, or both guilty and generous, or opportunistic and generous!

What was I saying. Oh, the line: how about the difference between something that is merely egregiously unhealthy and something that is chemically and biologically addictive, not to mention deadly?

Cheers,
Jon

Fine by me, though we might both agree that the hair is being split pretty fine. Is alcohol actually *physically* addicitve? I'm guessing so, knowing (2nd-hand) about DT's and what not. I think the evidence is distinctly clear about nicotine, not to mention it's fascinating ability to cause cancer and other wonderful diseases.

Then again, do we correlate those killed as passengers or victims in 'the other car' of drunk-driving accidents with those killed by exposure to second-hand smoke?

Well, just some thoughts about things...

Cheers,
Jon

Jon!
Hops are as addicting as herion, but occur in a very small dose in beer.
Being the case, those graphing marijuana to hop plants in order to disquise the plant are causing more problems for themselves

i don't think hops are the issue -- it's *alcohol* which is so
*physically* addictive, withdrawal symptoms can be worse than with
heroin.
