Recently there has been a large amount of interest in
discussion about lobbying instrument manufacturers to
include tuning capabilities in new instruments and
discussion of what those features might be and how such
persuasion might be accomplished.

This is a discussion that may not be of general
interest to all as it touches on political topics and
behind the scenes work.

It would be helpful to have a central repository of
information on this subject rather than have it
dispersed among many groups and across spans of time so
that instrument manufacturers can have quick access to
a site where these issues are navigated and links to
useful resources are kept.

-----------

The Microtonal Instruments Lobbying Organization is a
consortium of ethnic, folk, world, experimental and
other practicing musicians advocating the inclusion of
versatile tuning capabilities on digital musical
instruments.

Members consist of persons owning at least one
retunable instrument, active composers and performers,
instrument designers and music software architects.

Activities:

1. Coordinating efforts to lobby manufacturers to
include useful tuning capabilities.

2. Education about the dangers to native cultures that
the homogenization and standardization of western
tuning causes.

3. Discussion, debate, development and testing of new
desirable features and algorithms of general interest.

4. Formation of tuning protocol standards documents.

5. Repository of useful information for manufacturers
and designers to seek out practical information about
tuning, and the location of various documents related
to tuning of a nature directly of interest to
implementers.
