heres another version of the same trick:

I think it took me four tries to figure it out too: i admit i was freaked
out at first.

Oop- sorry Paul, I wasn't trying to insult you.
I didn't realize this was your way of saying it
took you four tries to figure out.

It's quite possible I've seen this before years
ago, and half-remembered it.

That's a pretty good trick. Psychology psychology psychology.

It seems to work. I have no clue.

He tells you to pick _one_ card, but have a look
at the others.

I presume that means *none* of the others match? I'm OK at logic, but bad at noticing things. One time my brothers decided to test me by allowing cheating without telling me about the rules. At first they were careful, but after a while they started doing things like putting cards in their front shirt pockets. I finally noticed when one of them pulled a card out from behind his ear.

*smile*

I'm usually quite dense, in fact. I may have an unfair
advantage with magic tricks because my Dad's friend from
work was a table magician, and for years we joined him at
an annual dinner in NJ of the table magic guild or something.
As a kid, everything was indeed magic. But as the years
passed I realized that about 50% of the tricks rely on
selectively directing your attention. So it was the first
thing I thought of with the esp thing. The other 50%
however... *poof*
