I was mostly thinking of the Second String Quartet, but
there's also pieces like For Phillip Guston and other works
of long duration.

David!
I can see the similarity in "concentration between the two ol guys but i
really find Morty even more minimal than La Monte at times and quite a
difference in construct. La Monte beats him when it comes t sonorities
though without a doubt. A inventive as MF was with 12 m you can only take it
so far.

La Monte tends to pull a Miles Davis trick a lot: reinvent the
instrument. The Harmon muted trumpets in the Four Dreams of China,
The Well Tuned Piano, maybe the Trio for Strings too? His
Kronos Kristalla for String Qt. sounded unique - the entire piece
was played on string harmonics.

Like Schoenberg and Mahler, Feldman thought in 72tet but
composed in 12 tet because......just kidding. Wasn't that you on
the Feldman list (or maybe the tuning list) suggesting retuning
Morty or wouldn't he be perfect for JI? I'll have to try
a few things...someday...when I find the time...
