Hey y'all,

In the interest of forthcomingness, I thought I might post a link or
two to a gig I did recently.

It's the first time in about thirty years I got up and played music
like this onstage, and actually, it's the FIRST time I've ever done
it as an official "jazz" gig, at a Jazz Festival, and all that. 52
years old, and I just did my first "jazz" gig, hee! Anyway...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaiZvxBbjuM

(= X Part 1) AND:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htRtDKZnWT8

(= X Part 2)

My solo's about 2:15 into Part 2, but the solo makes more sense if
you hear the head, first, I THINK (hee!) The music's by a cat named
Todd Horton, who couldn't make this gig, but I'm kinda hoping we
might make a record with him and this band soon. They say they're
gonna, and it looks like I'll be included, maybe even write some
stuff!

Hopes you enjoy!

~Pete

Nice to see you playin Pete!!
great as always

Actually Pete is telling the truth . he has played plenty of times on stage in the last 30 years, just not as a jazz player.
this boy has been the guitar player of a few heavy weights.

Yeah, sorry, that's right. Not as a nominal jazz dude!
I still wish I could get a straight-ahead jazz gig,
sometimes, as much as I tried to train for it. But I
was serious about bein' a fusion tycoon 30 years ago,
hee! I was gigging as a rock guy all the time until I
left LA in '93. And I did some fairly regular stints
in the Bay Area until I left there a year ago. 10
years ago in SF I was playing classic honky-tonk
country music, in a gigging band. We played GAMH and
even the Fillmore, as an opening act. I picked that
clip because it was the weirdest, and to me the most
interesting style/composition. I'm trying to do, like,
death-metal Miles, a-suhn-in...hee! This IS only my
second gig in a year, and I'm feeling REALLY rusty...

But I got a little session work here and there and
I've been teaching, too.

The last gig I did, I played fretless bass with a
great gyil player here in Philly, and we had some of
the best drummers in the area on that one, traps and
African and Afro-Cuban percussion. For that, I retuned
the bass and did my best to play the intervals on the
gyil. Mucho Fun!

Thanks!

Funny when you first mentioned in your post a jazz gig i expected to hear the alto clarinet:)
" not that i was disappointed.

i guess if you get really out side you can pull out the eikosany guitar just for the solo. but that might be pushing it!

I'm on the verge of some new stuff with it (the eiko
guit), I think. I started a little sketch, anyway. I
was getting inspired by some things around here in the
lists, and I think I may have some new Philly vibes to
work out on it (smile), too. Some
Frippertronicfunkentelechy or I don't know what... ;-)

And I'm almost feeling fearless enough to take you up
on that suggestion, but maybe not with those guys, or
quite yet, hee.

Oh, man! I gotta send the alto clarinet back! I
haven't played it at all, and I was just borrowing it,
sort of indefinitely. But if I can settled in, I'll
get one, hopefully a good one.

Which reminds me...fingerings? I still have my own
little funky Bb soprano clarinet, and I was practicing
both of them quite a lot, ...about two years ago.
Jeez.
