These practices should be pointed out are Pre-Islamic in origin. Mohammed was not for them. It is unfortunate he was not able to over come the abuses of the society in which he preached. True he was a Polygamist. But so are the Mormans. In the end they poisoned him
A recent bill by our so called freer institution in Iraq has stripped Iraqi women of many of the freedoms they had under Saddam.Women no longer have any civil rights there. But maybe we don't either.
But yes this is completely appauling.
Let us not forget that Women have only had the right to vote here for less than 100 years. And women in India are not treated well either. Same with Africa.
Personally i feel the real reason we have wars is that it is a way in which the males can stay in power as the dominant.
Monogomy was instituted in ancient greece by the military and 150 women in Athens chose death instead.

Funny thing, I was for many years a male music counselor in an international
girl's leadership camp for teenagers. I always promoted the idea in the
camp culture that women need to lead men for them to become full leaders. Women
are used to leading women, but not men, and there can be differences. ;)

Somehow, I never found a zeal to protect women around the world, or to
change anything. Much more often it was about the environment, while these
serious issues raised by adherence to pre-Islamic horrors are tip-toed around.
Americans often do lead. But with all the advances by women in only fairly
recent historical times, I feel more intensely about it than they do. And I am
not even allowed to call myself a feminist!

A culture is only going to flower ( pardon the pun) if it's women are allowed to participate and contribute equally. Any time a society cuts off any of it people, they lose.
I imagine we both share the desire for there to be more female composers and the most significant fellow music makers have been women.
In general, this is without a doubt one area which Israel shines. in its equality of women. Probably better than here.
