Why are the metatuning archives members only? I can understand restricting posting to members (to discourage spam) but why close the archives? I'm changing it back.

i would prefer it not be open to homeland insecurity, if you don't mind. other wise it will limit conversations. I don't know the purpose of them even being saved.

You can never be secure from the authorities with Yahoo.

The purpose of metatuning is to discuss the other tuning lists. Members of the other lists should be able to read the discussions. There's no way to form a collective membership.

I know that but considering the questions put forth have been more heated than even the main list, what purpose is making it more public. it has been a place to blow off steam more than any thing else. It is like a going into another room to finish such things. i am against it. It defeats the purpose of it.

let me state you are there and many of us are here. to me the outlook here is not pretty,
for instance bombs between the size of .5 to 6 times those the size used on Japan have been reclassified as conventional weapons and we do not consider them nuclear. This is what 'bunker buster' now means.
Sounds like someone is planning a party. The association of libraries has instituted a policy of dumping all their records sooner in resistance of the Patriot act. seems we should just follow suit.

let me add that they are now considered " safe for civilians!"

Metatuning had open archives from the start. All I've done is bring back that situation. I don't remember anybody telling me they were going to change it so I'm not making it more anything. I just this afternoon removed the message from the footer saying anybody could post.

If you don't want an archive trail, use a chat room. Even then you have to trust the other participants.

I want to keep open archives because then people can see what the list's about before they join. I also don't like the idea of talking about people behind their backs.

maybe you should read the archives. no one has ever talked about someone else behind their back.
