Any idea what kind of synth this is?

It looks really cool, plus it would be practical to use in bad
lighting. I'm afraid it probably isn't made anymore though...

A Stage Prop X49? :)

Seriously, I don't think it is a real instrument - things happen in
the music that don't on the kbd, and vice versa. I betting is was
something J-M J had custom made for his shows. But I kinda enjoyed how
the tune sounded like "Both Sides Now" after being put in a blender
and poured into a disco tumbler!

That guy needs a Lordi mask, too...

Cheers,
Jon

I loved Jarre back in the day -- but if that's a real synth he's
pounding on, then my father was Eleanor Roosevelt.

Actually, it looks like a gadget from the Jettsons...

I think he's playing a light machine that isn't plugged into a synth and
the band is playing the music.

That's the Magic, made for him by LAG. He also plays a laser
harp in that video (though not a very cool one by today's
standards).

It was a working MIDI instrument.

A likely story. It's funny how he zips his hand down the keyboard and the music glisses up.

I agree it doesn't look like it's playing notes there.
But MIDI can do lots of things, or maybe in that case
he was just using it as a prop. Look into it if you
don't believe me.

(sorry, we're answering in bits and pieces...) Yeah? How come what he
'plays' isn't reflected in the music? (i.e. 'chords' in his hands when
none are heard, glissandos going in different directions than in the
music, etc). But you have to love big budgets!

Was all this covered at some point in Kbd Mag?

Cheers,
Jon
