Finally got the Sleeping People CD (on monz's recommendation),
and it is awesome. But much to my disappointment, they don't
sing. Too bad. Not only does this really limit where they
can go with their careers, many points in their tracks really
seem to cry out for vocals.

Wow, i guess i have to say "my bad" ... from what i saw
at their CD release party performance at the Casbah, i assumed
that they didn't have any vocals in any of their "songs" (so really
they should be called "pieces"), and so i could have mentioned
that when i wrote about them.

But it didn't bother *me* a bit! I enjoyed their entire show
very, very much -- and for me, the most encouraging thing of all
is that i enjoyed their two newest tracks even more than all
the ones that are on the CD.

Maybe it's because i was exposed to a lot of amplified
experimental instrumental music in New York in the '80s and 90s
that i never missed any vocals. Also, i'm actually involved in
creating stuff like this at Sonic Arts fairly often, and we
*never* have any "regular" singing -- just once in a while,
Tuvan-style throat singing. Funny, but i never expected
to hear any vocals from Sleeping People, and never even
really noticed that there weren't any when i saw the show.

I do hear what you're saying about it limiting their careers.
And again, i apologize for not giving you the heads up.

Not at all, I'm quite glad to have the disc.

Probably 90% of what I listen to is instrumental music, and
I think I have 3 pieces with words of my own (at least in
through-composed world). I just thought that, as interesting
as the People's stuff is, it lacks in the polyphont dept. for
me. This would be well-addresed by some vocals, I think.

Sleeping People's Myspace:

I haven't seen Brandon (Relf, the drummer) since i posted
to this dialog in January ... but it looks as if things
are going well with Sleeping People:

after some gigs around California over the next month, they're
gigging the rest of the summer in Salt Lake City, Denver,
Chicago, Louisville, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Philly, DC, and
New York.
