Thank god there are Pinters and Chomskys in the world. The second,
political, half of this speech is amazing:

Thank you for that. Since Pinter speaks so eloquently about truth, I
have to be truthful and say that I'm not a total fan of Chomsky. But
the speech by Pinter is one of the most wrenching and powerful things
I've read in a long time.

Best,
Jon

Hi Jon-

He's not really saying anything that Chomsky hasn't been saying for years,
just perhaps expressing it more "dramatically".

i thought the first half of the speech was also quite timely in relations to recent discussions.
in the sense of there being non objective aesthetic 'truths'
Neruda will always be my favorite poet

on nuclear weapons james hillman pointed out that the development of nuclear weapons in such number is nothing short of keeping mass suicide an option. as is environmental suicide the logical outcome of consumerism.
I can not foresee or imagine
at the present moment
any political solutions
as to the criminal nature
of the institutions of societies in general

his poem on death could not but make me think of them finding composer Stephen Mosko dead the day before yesterday.
who i did not know, but many have said we had much in common and always hope to have met him
it will not happen now.
His version of
for samuel beckett
by morton feldman
still is my favorite version

Yes, I'd suspect so.

I just happen to find NC a fair bit of an asshole in demeanor. My
personal opinion, naturally, doesn't really matter, but when the
messenger turns off the audience, the message doesn't get out. Memes
can't overcome everything.

Cheers,
Jon

His first success was with "The Birthday Party" not bad and with definite
Kafkaesque ominous vibes which he got via Beckett eg Molloy (second part).
Even better is "The Caretaker" which they made a great movie of in the 60s
with Donald Pleasance Robert Shaw and Alan Bates. Its never been released on
this side of the pond but there is an excellent rip floating around on p2p
thats easy to get. For more recent plays "The Room" shows his minimalist
approach.
