Hi there,

I've just added some help to the fts beta preview download
page about the FTS oscilloscope. NOte that it is a very
preliminary section at present. However, could already
be used for checking pitch reproduction of the soundcard
to high accuracy using, e.g. the ocarina voice.

May have bugs in it.

While at it, I've done a section on how to set FTS up
so that one can show the FTS scales in SCALA,
show current SCALA scale in FTS, and use the
SCALA scales archive and list of modes in FTS as
a drop list,
and ditto for the SCALA list of modes.

Soon also hope to add the same kind of thing
for the new SCALA list of chords, but everything
is taking so long... :-( - well feels that way
anyway, really because there is so much I
want to do).

Since you mention this in one paragraph, and since we've recently seen the recommendations for the two programs (Scala and FTS) being recommended for entry into intonational investigations, the question becomes:

Do you and Manuel have any kind of current, or proposed, efforts to 'bundle' the two programs together? I'm well aware that they can certainly operate stand-alone, but it seems to an outside observer that as they've grown, the compliment each other's functionality more and more. Pairing them in the download process, as well as any help files / FAQs could be a real bonus.

I don't say this blithely, and am well aware of the potential gremlins as each continues a separate development cycle. But even if you and Manuel picked a recent, very stable version of each program and included instructions for installing, setting up, and utilizing the two programs together, I can't imagine it not being a Good Thing.

Just one guy's opinion...

...and thanks to the both of you for all the work on these items!

Cheers,
Jon

Geeze, FTS keeps getting better and better. Can you put in a utility
that will remove unnecessary files from my windows system32 directory?
;o)

That's an interesting proposition, we'll think about it. Documentation
about how to use the programs together could be improved in any case.
Maintainance would be a bit more work though and I don't have the
file space for it. I don't think complimenting each other's functionality
helps other people, but complementing does :-)

Manuel,

Maybe that is all that would be needed: a "How-To" for using both programs, a simple document that could be distributed with both Scala and FTS.

Understood.

<sigh> At least I didn't address it to "Manual"... :)

Makes as much sense as crediting the drum techs!

>Hey - what are we calling this band anyhow? Fractala? (ooh like that one!)

Excellent, ANYTHING that *doesn't* have Micro in the word!!!
