Well, I've seen that on videotape. the problem is, for example, the
dancers have to hop up and down for every beat in the Dance of
Adolescents. But this makes it slow and ponderous. PErsonally, I like
that movement fast and driving. In my head, I imagine these superfit
humans hopping up and down at impossibly fast rates.
But this is the problem: the music contains the dance. You don't need
any real dance, because it's already there. So the music, is, in a
sense, too good for real choreography.

There are lots of deliberate anti dance movements in the piece. the turning of the toes inward. the stumbling old man all over the stage. The hands plastered to the body. And especially the main dancer who freezes in the middle of the stage without moving for minutes only to comeback to life in the last dance. Possibly the dance out does the music as far as innovation. it does everything a dance(r) was not supposed to do
