Has anyone seen this:
http://freshmeat.net/redir/zynaddsubfx/33240/url_homepage/zynaddsubfx.sourceforge.net

From the soundforge site, they offer the following description:

About:
ZynAddSubFX is a powerful real-time, multi- timbral software
synthesizer for Linux. It has microtonal capabilities, and the
instruments it creates sound like those from professional keyboards.
It includes effects like reverb, echo, chorus, and phaser.

Release focus: Major feature enhancements

Changes:
Many features and bugfixes.

Author:
Paul Nasca [contact developer]

It was added to SoundForge in 2002, and updated yesterday. I don't
know anything about it, but it looks interesting.

Prent,

Being a Linux user myself, I haven't tried it out yet, but I've heard about
it, and everything sounds promising. I've been to the site and heard the
demos; they sound warm (the compositions are kinda cheezy though ;) )

Best,
Aaron.

There are apparently binaries available for Windows, Linux and OS X.

Prent,

I've tried it before. Sounds are ok, interface is pretty clunky, currently the VST version is either buggy or not included (looks like they've omitted it in the current distro until the do more debugging). And, if it matters to anyone, there is a bit of Christian proselytizing on their site.

Naturally, I'm speaking from the PC platform, so Mac/*nix people may have other priorities. Compared to the microtonal soft instruments that are available, some for quite low cost, it isn't a strong competitor.

See next msg also.

Cheers,
Jon
