Friends,

Divide by Pi has two new tracks up at mindawn.com; more to follow. Both
continue the current 3 and 7 based JI harmony obsession that Gene Ward
Smith's 'designer scales' have spawned.

It is a pay service--$0.99 per hi-fi ogg file. To try any file out before you
purchase, you need to download their free software: I think it allows you
audtion something 3 times. If you like something, you purchase your own copy
of the ogg or flac files. Flac files I think are $1.98 or something. Then you
can purchase an entire album for $6.99 in ogg, or $8.99 in flac.

I think it's an excellent business model, with the right files types being
supported, so I signed on right away.

If anyone wants a flac file of either track, let me know; this early in the
game, and without the completed album, I'm just putting the .ogg files up
while we assemble the album.

Cheers,
Aaron.

There are three tracks now. All new?

Definitely a step in the right direction, but the price is too
high (not for your music, but on average). Do they let you
charge whatever you want? Do they keep anything?

Yes; I put up the third one today. The album is being slowly compiled from 2
months of the best of our material...it promises to be a great disk, and
great tracks. When you get a chance preview the tracks, let me know what you
think of them.

Soon I'll also be uploading flac files of everything...

iTunes also costs $0.99 per track. It seems they've set an industry standard.
For anything good, I'd pay that (more even). I actually think its a very
reasonable price. And, it's $1.24 per flac, which is very very good,
considering that it's completely lossless audio, wheras iTunes I think only
deals in lossy audio

Exculsive content to mindawn.com gives a 75% commision to us--that's better
than any record company or onine service I've ever seen.

Yep, iTunes is too expensive. Expect to see price wars. $1/track
is no cheaper than CDs, which is ridiculous (since distribution
costs aren't involved and since CDs are overpriced already).

Yup, that's pretty good. But if they don't let you set your
own prices, it's also pretty lame.

When the album is finished, how are you planning on releasing it?
Will it be download only or actually on disc? Either way I think
I'll wait till its finished before checking these out, since I'm
a "total package" kinda guy. Looking very much forward to it, tho!
