Hey,

There is a loooong, slow ramp-up to the full-on, always available music setup. But I'm getting there, and it has been fun as each part comes together. Tonight's installment (I'm following the "Prent Rodgers Make 10 Minutes of Music a Day to a Slimmer You" plan) is really for only the most bored among you, but both flavors are up:

http://www.microtonal.org/mp3/logs.mp3
http://www.microtonal.org/mp3/logs.ogg

Instead of using my fingers on a kbd, I've got the old DrumKAT midi controller set back up. It is going to take a while to get all the pads reset to sensitivity and do some mapping, so while I had it on and was fiddling around, I figured I'd put up a sound and mess with it. Funny thing about the Xlutop "Chainer" application ...

http://www.xlutop.com/html/chainer.html

... is that it can record anything run through it, and then save that recording (it also has a neat facility for generating samples from instruments). It not only is a great stand-alone host, but is a beaut for layering synths - just insert Chainer in a track and then stack the VSTs, playing them all like they were one big sound.

So that's how I captured < 2:00 of improvised stickage. I'm already starting to work on sections and ideas of extended pieces, but those take a long time and a lot of fussing with. I've got two more final pieces of the setup coming in the next couple weeks, and then I'm gonna settle in.

Gory details:
------------

o DrumKAT - as a midi controller
o Rhino2 - with the new Daniel Mauer DS1 patch set - Rhino gets better and better!
o GlaceVerb - an interesting, pretty damn good, and completely FREE reverb plug
o A pair of sticks and our favorite "no wrong notes" ET.

Cheers,
Jon

A,

{you wrote...}

I'd never do that (post a 12tet here) without total confession. I did say that it was in our favorite "no-wrong-notes-ET", which I believe the consensus of the entire world was 5tet. Which was the tuning used.

Cheers,
Jon
