Hi,

Here are a whole bunch of people making microtonal music, for any of those on the MMM list that don't belong to the tuning list:

The complete schedule for the JIN (Just Intonation Network) 20th Anniversary Concert Series is up, at:

It is a remarkable array of musics and peformers...

Cheers,
Jon

Jon, Everyone else,
I was excited to see Ellen Fullman will be performing in April; I may just be in the area at that time; i hope i'll find a way finally to see her perform. I built a Long String Instrument last year, eventually installing it in a sewer. The reverberation was... impressive. Not Pauline Oliveros' Deep Listening impressive, but pretty good all the same.

unfortunately, it was washed away in a storm before I could record it. hum. I should post some of the recording i do have, see what y'all think.

Has anyone else experimented with long strings? I had a lot of trouble keeping enough tension in them to play, without them breaking. but i was using brass wire, while ms. fullman appears to have settled on bronze. perhaps that's the secret...

You might want to try music wire , which i noticed that at least the OSH garden supply store has been keeping in stock ( don't ask me why, but there it is) . This is what is used on the piano and can withstand quite a bit of tension. i am surprised to hear about the bronze as i know on my hammer dulcimer, these are always the first strings to break. it does have a richer tone than the aforementioned stainless steel which might make it speak the harmonics easier. I can only guess but good to know. Hope you have better luck recording it next time and have you tried having the water activate the string?
